Spotify closed to USA? :(

30 January 2009 4,773 Views One Comment

Spotify users in the USA have been denied access and presented with a “Why is Spotify not available in my country?” message on the homepage and a link to a post about the recent ban in countries. The post is here and just says that your IP is in the United States and they cannot offer services in that country. However, a post on TechCrunch explains that it was various record labels that shut them down.

Also, a post on Spotify’s Blog explains into more detail the changes and the reasons for the changes. It says that “A number of the tracks that you’ve listened to previously will no longer be available for streaming” and that the entire service will be unavailable to certain countries (like the USA). They don’t give a timeline of when the service will be active again in the various countries, they just say they “hope” that they can restore service.

In the meantime, one would suggest that you just use a overseas proxy to visit the site. As far as how to do that, you should check another site, or do a Google search.
