Google’s New Favicon

10 January 2009 2,130 Views No Comment

As you may have noticed, Google.com and related sites got a new set of favicons. They went from the old, blue “g” to a new colorful puzzle sort-of icon.  The new icon still contains that “g” however it is surrounded by contrasting colors and looks a lot more Web 2.0 than their old favicon.

The new favicon seems to only apply to Google Search, Maps, News, Shopping and other “search” portions of Google. Analytics, Gmail and YouTube all have their same old icons. YouTube’s icon is in the worst shape, with it appearing as almost “squished” horizontally to fit in the 32×32 allotment.

We can only hope the new icon will spread to other Google Services, but in the mean time, the new logo looks pretty spiffy.
